Last week I got the amazing opportunity to interview the South African author Marita van der Vyver. It was part of a series of broadcast from the Zuid-Afrikahuis (South Africa House) in Amsterdam, an organisation where I volunteer. For more than an hour, Marita and I chatted about her newest book, ‘n Baie lang brief aan my dogter, her youth in South Africa and writing during the covid-19 restrictions. You can watch the complete interview below, in which I speak Dutch and Marita Afrikaans: this way we show Dutch and Afrikaansspreaking people how easy it is to understand the other language, even if you can’t speak it yourself. Marita’s book is available in Afrikaans and English (A Long Letter to My Daughter).
